The chair is finished!

Today I finally finished the office chair model. All I really needed to do was adjust the cushion part of the chair, which was pretty easy and just a case of arranging the vertices so it had bumps and indents.

Overall, the office chair was fairly easy to model, even though this was the most complicated model I had ever done before. The only problems I would say I had is trying to keep to a low poly count, but not so much that the model would loose it's appearance.

The finished model took me about 5-6 hours to complete.

Just the finishing touches....

This is a screenshot the the whole chair I have modelled so far.

The model looks good at the moment but I feel it looks a bit hard and doesn't seem "cushiony" at all.
I think it will be pretty easy to make it seem so, and I will do that that later.

Making the wheels

On Wednesday 15th February I Finally added the wheels to the base of the chair.

Here is an image of what it previously looked like

I then thought the wheels didn't look like they were attached onto the end, so I adjusted the legs.

Here is the finished base of the chair so far.

To finish off the base i would say it took close to 2 hours.

Still building the office chair

So today I carried on working on the office chair today and I feel I have progressed quite well. The base pole and the legs are now complete and I just need to add the wheels on to those.

This is what I did in about 2-3 hours.

After I have completed the legs I then need to make the seat section look more "cushion" like.

Time to start Modelling

So I started to model the office chair on Friday 10th January.

This took me about 1 hour to do what i have so far, although I had a few problems which is why it took me so long.

I also had a problem with creating the bottom of the chair trying to extrude the faces to embellish the design a bit. Here is a screenshot of the mesh to show the problem I was having.

In the end I have left it like this as it doesn't really create any real problems at the moment and it looks just fine.

The brief

Mike emailed me back saying I could do some low poly modelling for some props and a background he needed.

These are the two pictures he sent me to use as reference.

The chair is fairly easy to make so I have started working on that, although the museum exterior looks a bit overwhelming since I only really know the basics for modelling in Maya.

Starting off...

I emailed two people who I could potentially help with their work.

First I emailed Liam, who is working on an animation called "Eagles are Jerks". This is all 2D animation drawn frame by frame in Flash. I asked him if i could do some digital inking for him and he said he would be happy for me to do that.

Now I'm just waiting for him to set up a meeting so I can do some of his work that he's already animated - and ready to be digitally inked.

Introduction

In the second year of Animation, we were given a module "Film Shorts and Stings", and in this module we are required to work at least 25 hours with 3rd years - helping them with their major project. This is good for us because we get to see what its like being a 3rd year and the processes they go through towards the end of their degree. It also gives us a chance to get our names known if we are credited at the end of the animations, and the final work is entered into festivals.
